Procedure to host an Author Talk:
Once the author and hospital
are defined,
- arrange for a suitable
meeting location, date and time
- identify any
audiovisual requirements and loan source if needed
- assist the author with
handouts or copying of the article
- publicize the talk via
the Capitol Alliance listserv and other media
- if appropriate,
arrange for lunch or refreshments
Format:
Suggested content for the Author
- How did you get
interested in the topic? How did you begin to formulate
your research question? What made you want to look at this
in more depth? (10 min)
- How did you move
an idea to a research or utilization project? How did you
develop your project or research proposal? What were the
challenges you faced? (10 min)
- What were your
results or the outcome of your project? What is the
relevance of your topic or findings to bedside Nursing
practice? How should your findings be utilized in practice?
(10 min)
- Why did you
choose to publish? How was the process of writing the
article accomplished? How did you choose the journal to
publish in?
- What were the
steps involved in working with the editors? What tips have
you learned to pass on to other potential authors
(especially novice authors)? (10 min)
- Questions,
answers, and evaluation. (10min)
