Conference Guidelines

Alliance Collaborative Members form the following teams and meet monthly to plan each annual conference:

  • Call for abstracts
  • Brochure development
  • Abstract review
  • Conference ambiance
  • Poster award presentations

Uniqueness:

  • Special attention is paid to detail related to the decorations, surroundings and food.
    • Five senses are engaged – sight, smell, sound, touch, taste
    • Each annual conference has offered additional learning opportunities such as a limited seating luncheon roundtable to talk up close and personal with various presenters and the use of themes to wrap the conference activities around such as the history of nursing and a display of two nurse historians' memorabilia on Florence Nightingale.
  • Skill building sessions are incorporated into each conference.
    • Searching the Literature
    • Quantitative and Qualitative research methods
    • Outcomes research
    • Research Statistical methods
    • Applying RU into daily practice
  • Research conference topics are applicable to the daily practice of nursing from many different specialties.
  • Offered free of charge to nursing students and staff from the Alliance Organizations or at a minimal charge if not a member of the Alliance.
  • Blends clinical expertise of nursing staff with the research expertise of faculty and promotes increased collaboration between clinical practice and academia.
  • Evaluations are obtained from all participants and reviewed by the Alliance members and this feedback is incorporated into plans for the next conference.
  • Contact Hours are offered for each presentation.
  • The poster and paper presentation often incorporate the findings presented at the Research Roundtables and the Author Talks.
  • Safe place for beginning staff, students and researchers to present their findings.

Outcomes:

  • Increased staff nurses’ interest and participation in the research process.  Attendance at the conferences has increased by 100% since the first one.
  • The conferences have led to the growth of the Alliance membership and the development of our web site and listserv.
